Often referred to as 'Nurses' buckles, fancy Silver buckles such as this were worn to show their qualification. A wonderful dress feature, this large and prettily shaped Silver buckle dates to 1895 by a hallmark applied in London. The design incorporates a winged cherub amongst floral trelliswork around masks of the Green Man to each side symbolising rebirth and new growth. Just charming in its intricacy and meaning!
Measures 5 inches by 3 inches and opens with a wide hook. It can be polished more brightly but we thought we'd leave the new owner to choose.
